Bulb planting adventures.

I bought some awesome black & white calla lily bulbs at Costco this past week. I realized soon after that I had nowhere to plant them. Soooo we made a trip to Lowe's & we bought a window box and a deck hanging kit. Yup. We're awesome. And by "we", I mean "Kacee" because she had to hang it.

We used Miracle Grow Moisture Control soil [that's my herb plant in the background: chives, parsley, dill, basil, and something I have no idea about] & planted 4 of the 6 bulbs in the window box.

This is what they're supposed to look like when they bloom. Let's hope for them to be even HALF that pretty.

I can't wait to start seeing blooms! Hopefully, as it gets later in the day, the sun will be able to hit the balcony. The white ones don't need as much sun as the black ones, but they're all in the same place, so hopefully they'll all bloom. Kacee has grown up gardening, so I'm hoping her green thumb will rub off on me.

Cross your fingers... and toes. I'll need it.

Frozen oatmeal? Yes, ma'am.

I don't know if all the Costco locations carry it or not, but MY Costco just started carrying this amazing product:

It's an 8-pack, though. I was hesitant to buy it, but then they had it on sample [love that!]. It's fairly priced @$7.99 for 8 servings. The Vermont Maple Syrup is my favorite, but there is also some sort of berry flavor, with actual berries - not berry flavoring. It comes frozen in individual serving sizes, made to be microwaved. I know it sounds subpar, but trust me - It's AMAZING. It's the perfect consistency without having to add anything at all. HEY, AND they're steel cut. Do you know how long it takes to make those on your own?

For one 8oz Vermont Maple Syrup serving: 180 calories; 2.5 g fat; 0 g saturated fat; 0 mg cholesterol; 55 mg sodium; 35 g carbohydrates; 4 g fiber; 10 g sugar; 5 g protein; 4% calcium; 10% iron.

Valentine's Day 2011 =]

Hey, I'm only a week and a day late on this post. Much better than usual.

I took Kacee out to Melting Pot for Valentine's Day dinner. They had a prix fixe menu that was a tad on the expensive side, but it's a holiday so I was expecting it. Plus, it was a 5 course meal. I forgot to take a picture of the salad, but those came in between the shrimp cocktail and the cheese fondue. I have no idea what was extra in this cocktail sauce, but it was some of the best I've ever tried.

My pretty girlfriend, Kacee, all dressed up:

Our Chandon: [Sidenote: YAY, the picture is fuzzy; not just my vision] Although, I was pretty tipsy by the time we left... We finished the bottle.

Champagne swiss cheese fondue with apples, bread cubes, and raw veggies for dipping.

The main course: lobster [2 tails], filet mignon, NY strip, ahi tuna, chicken, and mushrooms. [On the other side that you can't see there was broccoli, cauliflower, potatoes, more mushrooms, and plenty of dipping sauces.

Cooking our foooooods in the broth:

And my favorite part... DESSERT! We got the chocolate caramel nut crunch fondue [tastes like a melted Snickers!] with rice krispies treats, pound cake, graham covered marshmallows, oreo covered marshmallows, brownies, bananas, strawberries, and cheesecake. OMNOMNOM. We didn't want this one to end. I've had some good dessert fondue, but this melty-Snickers-thing... THE BEST - especially with the cheesecake & fruits.

Our awesome server took a picture of us. We ended up tipping him 20% MORE, on top of the 18% already included in the check. He was amazing. Our food came out a little fast - We weren't done with each course before the next was served [at least for the first two], but I'm guessing that was more the management and kitchen than him. [It was a busy night, after all.] His name was Steve and he made our night worth it. He was fun, entertaining, attentive, and earned every penny of his tip. When we go back there, we will definitely be requesting him to serve us.

I definitely recommend The Melting Pot if you have some extra cash [hey, or CREDIT!] to blow. It seems a bit expensive, but the tables are all really private, the food is amazing, the service was great, and overall, very much worth the money. Definitely not a once a week type place, but we will be back.

We had the best day, all day, and the evening was just the cherry on top of the giant sundae. <3
